The Project

Amber Expedition
European Culture Road

“Amber Expedition” is the enterprise of artistic and scientific nature to promote common European cultural heritage on the Old Continent. During Roman times the Amber Road used to be what for the contemporary people would be some kind of trans-European motorway unifying communities in spite of lingual, cultural and civilisational differences. We want our reconstructed Roman carriage, also known as carruca, to take a journey, on the trails of the ancient merchants, through the lands between the Baltic Sea and the Adriatic. Its journey is to initiate set of actions supporting international cooperation in the departments of culture and the transfer of exhibits, cultural and artistic crafts.

An outstanding historical festival is planned in the frame of the project during which the Roman carriage in the assist of merchants and legionaries will be shown. Ancient reality will be presented by the use of various theatrical and happening forms, which include interaction with the spectators – in that way we will present art, craftsmanship, war customs and scenes of daily life. The whole enterprise will be documented on film, showing project's realisation. A scientific conference is planned as well to serve as a form of dialogue between people gathered round the history of the Amber Road. Its history will be presented on an exhibition titled “The Magic of Amber”, prepared by museum workers, researchers from Poland and partner countries. “Amber Expedition” - original and innovative in its character integrates institutions of culture such as: theatres, museums, artistic associations, research centres, universities and public authorities. Mutual cooperation between partners during the project “Amber Expedition” strengthens, in a significant way, the common cultural heritage of the Europeans and common European identity.
